Participating in research is a great opportunity to learn about a topic, develop new skills, and also will look great on your CV and residency application. When you are involved in research, you can also gain a mentor and find someone to write you a letter of recommendation for the residency process.

If you are looking for a research opportunity, send an email to a resident or attending physician to learn about any projects that you can be a part of. Whether you are completing a literature review, collecting data, or doing statistical analysis, there are many ways to get involved in a project.

You can learn about research that an attending physician or resident is involved in by searching their name on PubMed. Through your institution’s library, you can usually get free access to many online medical journals where you can read various research articles. Through reading research articles, you can also develop your own research questions and pitch these ideas to residents and attending physicians.
